Imagine

a world where Parkinson’s patients move more freely.

Imagine

a world where pain is managed without the use of opioids.

Imagine

a world where there is new hope for addiction.

A Noninvasive Approach

ElectroSonic Stimulation (ESStim™) is an innovative noninvasive brain stimulation technology developed by Highland Instruments. ESStim™ overcomes the limitations of other technologies by combining independently controlled electromagnetic and ultrasonic fields to focus and boost stimulation in neural tissue. ESStim™ has been successfully implemented for the treatment of Chronic Pain in clinical trials. ESStim™ has also been successfully implemented for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease in clinical trials. Additionally, ESStim™ is currently being investigated for the treatment of Opioid Use Disorder.

ElectroSonic Stimulation is protected by patents, both issued and pending, nationally and globally. Note caution as Federal (or United States) law limits device to investigational use in the Chronic Pain, Parkinson’s Disease, and Opioid Use Disorder indications.

Neurodegenerative Diseases

ESStim™ is being developed to target motor centers in the brain, stimulation of which can improve Parkinson’s Disease patient symptoms, including balance and gait deficits.

Chronic Pain Management

ESStim™ is being developed to target pain centers in the brain, stimulation of which can modulate pain sensitization and reduce amplified pain in Chronic Pain patients.

Psychiatric Disorders

ESStim™ is being developed to target addiction related centers in the brain, stimulation of which can modulate drug craving and/or diminish drug use in opioid use disorder patients.

Introducing The ESStim™ System

Imagine a technology that has the potential to improve the quality of life for millions of people and is 100% noninvasive.

ESStim™ couples Transcranial Ultrasound (TUS) with Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) to focus, amplify, and steer

transcranial applied currents.

Appropriately applied neurostimulation currents can alter the function of brain targets past the period of stimulation and be used therapeutically.

Caution: Investigational Device. Federal (or United States) law limits device to investigational use.

A Neurotechnology Company

Highland Instruments is innovating ESStim™ - a noninvasive neuromodulation platform to help patients overcome chronic pain, neurodegenerative diseases, and psychiatric disorders. Highland, founded by scientists trained at Harvard Medical School and MIT, has also been developing a multitude of technologies to support ESStim™, including artificial intelligence, imaging, wearable sensors, and human movement kinematics.
